The Deja Vu Review – A Classic – The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

The Deja Vu Review is a Meme hosted by The Book Addict’s Guide that gives us the chance to review books that we read before we became book bloggers. A theme is suggested each week to help us pick a book from our past we might want to rave about. This week our topic is a classic. As I have said many times whilst blogging I am ashamed that I haven’t read very many classics, however I did find something that is perfect for this week.

In this harrowing tale of good and evil, the mild-mannered Dr. Jekyll develops a potion that unleashes his secret, inner persona—the loathsome, twisted Mr. Hyde.

This story was one we had to read for English in 5ht year and I was surprised to find that I really enjoyed it. It isn’t really a particularly long story however there was enough going on to keep you gripped through the whole story in one sitting. Dr Jekyll is a well-respected man in London however he isn’t totally satisfied with his life. This leads to him experimenting with a potion that will turn his life upside down. When Mr Hyde is released the violent side of Jekyll that had been locked away causes grief throughout London that when returned to normal Jekyll can’t hide from. However this is just the start of his problems as he is about to lose all control.

When I started this book I was taken in by how different the story was to everything else I has been reading. The mysterious nature of Jekyll’s life was easy to read about and I think the story was the perfect length to give the resolve all the issues that arose. It is a few years ago now that I read it so I can’t remember all the things that I happened in the book but I would definitely recommend it as a first classic to read.

  1. Ooh sounds like this would be a good one for me to pick up considering my aversion to classics haha. I like that it’s shorter and seems like it has a lot of interesting action to keep it moving!
